Fix a file error, starting from the message

When a file won't open, the software usually tells you why — a code like 0xc00d36c4, a line like "moov atom not found", a flat refusal that the folder "is invalid". Each page below starts from that exact text, explains what actually causes it, and diagnoses your file for free before any repair.

Your file never leaves your device — repair runs in your browser. 0 bytes uploaded.

Why the message matters

The same symptom — "it won't open" — has very different causes, and the error text is the fastest way to tell them apart. A missing index reads differently from a truncated download, and both read differently from a file that's simply in a format your player can't decode. Matching the exact message means the page can be honest about whether repair is even the right move: some of these errors are corruption we can rebuild, and some are a codec gap or a wrong extension, which no repair should pretend to fix.

Find your message below, grouped by the kind of file it came from. If you'd rather browse by format or by the device that produced the file, use therepair-tools index instead.

If you know the file type or the camera, drone, or app that made it, the repair-tools index is organised that way.
